FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

For all additional inquires, please contact Air Free Duct Cleaning at (515) 986-3424 or freshair@airfreeductcleaning.com.

How much will the duct cleaning cost?
The cost of air duct cleaning will depend on the size of the system to be cleaned, the air duct material, layout of your home, system accessibility, and the level of contamination. We do not charge by the vent, so no need to count registers!
Why is it important to choose a NADCA (National Air Duct Cleaning Association)Certified company?

Air duct cleaning companies must meet stringent requirements to become NADCA Members. All NADCA Members must have certified Air System Cleaning Specialists (ASCS) on staff who have taken and passed the NADCA Certification Examination. Passing the exam demonstrates extensive knowledge of HVAC design and cleaning methodologies. ASCS’s are required to attend continuing education seminars to maintain their NADCA certification status. NADCA Members have signed a Code of Ethics stating they will do everything possible to protect the consumer and follow NADCA Standards for cleaning.

How long does duct cleaning take?
For a typical one-furnace residence, duct cleaning will take 3-4 hours. However, the amount of time it takes to clean a residential HVAC system depends on many variables such as the size of the home, the number of systems, the extent of the contamination, and the number of HVAC cleaners performing the job.
Can I just clean my dryer vent myself?
The majority of dryer vents are too long to use a run of the mill vacuum. Dryer vents are the #1 cause of residential fires. When this amount of safety is at risk, it is essential to know it has been cleaned properly.
Will I need to be there during the duct cleaning?

No. However, our technicians will need access to the furnace, air conditioning system, and ductwork. All technicians are insured, uniformed, and will arrive in specially equipped company vehicles.

Are occupants required to be present during the cleaning?
The entry point to cleaning is outside of the home, so occupants are not required to be present.
How often should I get my air ducts cleaned?

Dryer vents should be professionally cleaned annually. NADCA recommends that the HVAC system be inspected every year and air ducts be inspected every 2 years. Some of the things that may lead a homeowner to consider more frequent cleaning include:

  • Smokers in the household.
  • Pets with lots of hair and dander.
  • Water contamination or damage to the home or HVAC system.
  • Residents with allergies or asthma who might benefit from a reduction in the amount of indoor air pollutants in the home’s HVAC system.
  • After home renovations or remodeling.

Prior to occupancy of a new home to remove contaminants resulting from the construction process.
