Photos: This photo of a dirty air filter was taken from inside the return air duct.  The same filter after we removed it. A dirty air filter reduces HVAC system efficiency and can damage system components.  Dirt build-up on the blower motor due to the ineffective air filter. This system was blowing dirty air through the house. We clean all air handler components as part of our service.  This shows a return air duct before cleaning. Even in a brand new home the ductwork usually contains chunks of drywall and other construction debris.  The return air duct after cleaning.
